Presbyterian Church’s Annual General Assembly

The Presbyterian Church in America hosted its annual general assembly in Chattanooga June 14-17. There were over 1,600 attendees who left an estimated economic impact of $720,000 at our hotels, restaurants and attractions.

The attendees gathered for a week of denominational meetings, seminars, workshops, exhibits and family activities. The 1,400 wives and children of attendees had some free time and were able to explore the sites and sounds of Chattanooga. They participated in a walking tour of downtown Chattanooga, craft activities, visited the Chickamauga Battlefield, Tennessee Aquarium, IMAX 3D Theater and several museums.

"Chattanooga was a very hospitable city, making this conference flow smoothly from pre-planning to final tear down," said Sherry Eschenberg, meeting planner for the Presbyterian Church in America. "It was very easy to navigate in the downtown area, full of nice restaurants and I felt very safe!"

CLUB H.O.G.

Chattanooga became "hog heaven" for thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world as they converged on the historic city for CLUB H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) Chattanooga. Approximately 12,000-15,000 Harley owners rolled into Chattanooga August 26-27, leaving an estimated economic impact of $7.2 million.

Those two days were filled with rides, musical entertainment, Ride-In-Shows, Southern Belle Riverboat cruises, stunt rider entertainment, and a community-wide Parade of Flags.

While most of the CLUB H.O.G. Chattanooga events were only open to H.O.G. members who registered for the event, local residents were invited to join in some of the fun, including the Rockin' on the River street party that followed the parade on August 27. The party was a great opportunity for visitors and locals alike to experience the new Chattanooga waterfront while enjoying delicious food and beverages and great entertainment.

Precept Ministries

Precept Ministries International held its national meeting in Chattanooga August 4-7. Precept Ministries International is a non-denominational organization whose mission is to teach students how to study the Bible for themselves. In 2001, Precept Ministries International’s first National Women’s Convention stretched the yet-unfinished Chattanooga Convention Center beyond its capacity. The second convention set an event record for the Convention Center with more than 9,500 women in attendance. This year’s event did not disappoint, with a powerful lineup of national authors and speakers, and an estimated 8,500 attendees.
